Mahira Khan to take initiative against child sexual abuse in Pakistan
KARACHI - Pakistan's top actress Mahira Khan has spoken her heart out over the brutal rape cum murder of Zainab in Kasur city. She said that those that are sitting in power it is their responsibility to bring justice.
It is their responsibility to not just find the man who did this to Zainab, but to all the other cases before that,” said Mahira.
“We have to find a long-term solution, which is that we need to talk about abuse, we have to not associate it with shame. We need to tell our children not to remain silent,” she added.
Mahira said that there was a need to change the curriculum of schools and for the government to have a budget which facilitates discussions on abuse.
The leading actress also announced to give free talks on the subject, adding that films, books and pieces of art highlighting child abuse will be focal in inducing a change in people’s attitudes.
She concluded with emphasising on the fact that it was important to convey abusers that the power lies with ‘us’ and not them.
