Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui appointed as new MQM Chief

KARACHI: Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has been appointed as new convener of MQM after the party removed Farooq Sattar from his office.

In his first directive for the supporters, Khalid Maqbool urged the party workers to withdrawn their support for the former party chief Farooq Sattar, who had called them to the party’s PIB headquarters, and follow the directives of the new leader.

Earlier in a press conference, Coordination Committee presented a ‘charge-sheet’ against the party Convenor Farooq Sattar and announced his removal as party head.

The party took this decision after Election Commission allowed MQM-P deputy-convener, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui the power to hand out party tickets for upcoming Senate elections.

The decision was announced by MQM-P senior leader Kunwar Naveed Jamil. He said Farooq Sattar has been removed for his ‘negligence’.

“MQM’s registration was cancelled by the ECP only due to Dr Farooq Sattar’s negligence,” he said.

He said Farooq Sattar was also involved in purposefully sabotaging the Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation [the welfare arm of the MQM] by committing gross mismanagement in its affairs.

Naveed Jamil also said Farooq Sattar also pushed Nazeer Hussain University into severe financial crisis.

“Dr Farooq Sattar also altered the party constitution to his own benefit and siphoned all authorities and powers to himself,” Jamil further alleged while announcing the reasons why Sattar was removed.
