ATC reserves judgment in case against Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD:The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Islamabad Tuesday reserved its judgment in a petition of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan seeking acquittal from a case regarding torture on the then Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Asmatullah Junejo by protesters during the 2014 sit-in in the Federal Capital.
ATC Judge Shahrukh Arjamand reserved the judgment after Imran Khan's counsel and prosecution side completed their arguments and decided to announce it on April 25.
During the course of proceedings, the prosecutor contended that Imran Khan was declared a proclaimed offender after completing all required legal formalities. The application for acquittal was submitted before time, he added.
He said the prosecution side had not yet submitted a complete challan in the case. More witnesses would be included in the final challan, he added.
He requested the court to grant more time to prepare the case against Imran Khan.
However, Dr Babar Awan, counsel for the PTI chief, argued that no witness had nominated his client in their statements. Even even the victim police officer Asmatullah Junejo had not named Imran Khan, he added.
After hearing the arguments from both sides, the court reserved its judgment.
