Nanak International University being shifted to Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Education and Professional Training Baleegh ur Rehman Monday told the National Assembly that Baba Guru Nanak International University at Nankana Sahib was being shifted to Islamabad due to land issues.
He stated this while responding to a calling attention notice regarding delay in the construction of Baba Guru Nanak International University at Nankana Sahib despite inclusion of the project in the PSDP 2017-18.
The minister said establishment of the university was the project of Evacuee Trust Property Board which comes under the federal government. It was a requirement that the university should be federally chartered for which it was essential to be set up in the capital, he added.
Baleegh ur Rehman said the Evacuee Trust Property Board had announced allocation of land for it but its occupation was still an issue. Following the land issue, he said, it had been decided to set up the university in Islamabad and to set up its sub-campus later in Nankana Sahib.
Work on the university would be started in the on-going fiscal year as allocation of funds had been made for the purpose, he added.
