Rs 737 crore Zakat collected from across the country in 2018

ISLAMABAD: A sum of Rs 7,377.678 million had been collected from across the country as Zakat during Financial Year 2017-18, reveals Economic Survey 2018-19.
According to survey released here, the bulk of the amount had been distributed among provinces/ federal areas during the FY 2018-19. According to details, Rs. 181.476 million had been collected from Islamabad Capital Territory Areas (ICT), Rs. 95.902 million from Gilgit-Baltistan, Rs. 239.059 million from FATA, Rs. 3935.608million from Punjab, Rs. 1626.800 million from Sindh, Rs. 948.224 million from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rs 350.609 million Zakat was collected from Balochistan.
Zakat funds were utilized for assistance to the needy, indigent, poor, orphans, widows, handicapped and disabled for their subsistence or rehabilitation. These poor segments of society are provided Zakat funds either directly through respective local Zakat Committee or indirectly through institutions including.
educational, vocational, social institutions and hospitals, etc.
Ministry of Religious Affairs & Inter-Faith Harmony has been assigned the task of collection and disbursement of Zakat funds to the Provinces/Federal Areas till next NFC Award under the CCI approved formula.
