Hurriyat Leader Syed Ali Gillani meets Pak High Commissioner Abdul Basit in New Delhi
NEW DELHI: Kashmiri Hurriyat Leader Syed Ali Gillani met with Pakistani High Commissioner in India Abdul Basit in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Pakistani High Commissioner assured him that "Pakistan will continue to extend moral, political and diplomatic support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and their legitimate right of self-determination".
Basit discussed the regional situation and inquired about the Hurriyat leader’s health.
Basit Ali also met a day before with Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, another moderate leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference APHC.
Earlier India had objected to the inclusion of the Kashmiri Hurriyat Leaders in the bilateral talks process between the two states.
Foreign secretary level talks between Pakistan and India were expected to start in mid of January but postponed due to Pathankot terror attacks in which India blamed Pakistani based JeM leader Masood Azhar to be the master mind behind the attacks.
The talks were called off earlier in 2014-15 due to non inclusion of six decades old Kashmir dispute between Pakistan and India in the composite dialogues.
