Pakistan FM Qureshi takes a strong stand over the Afghanistan peace process in Istanbul conference

ISLAMABAD - Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi says peace and stability in Afghanistan is in Pakistan's own interest.
Talking to media in Istanbul, Turkey, he said Pakistan deems that establishment of peace in Afghanistan will lead to more bilateral trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
He said Pakistan will have opportunities of investment, reconstruction, and infrastructure development in Afghanistan.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan has played a positive role in holding of talks between the US and Taliban in Doha and this contribution is being hailed by the world.
He said the international community is also appreciative of Pakistan for clearing its side of the border from terrorists.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan has created internal political consensus regarding its tribal belt and merged it into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said the incumbent government has allocated a special financial package for the development of erstwhile FATA to remove the sense of deprivation and poverty from the area.
He said Pakistan made it clear at the Heart of Asia Conference that Islamabad cannot make efforts in Afghan peace process alone and the world should come forward to play its role in this regard.
