Arab League lashes out at US over Jerusalem move

Arab League says the US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital is "dangerous and unacceptable".

Addressing the emergency meeting of foreign ministers of Arab League in Cairo, secretary-general of the bloc, Ahmed Aboul-Gheit said the decision is a "flagrant attack on a political solution" to the Israeli- Palestinian conflict.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said Trump's policy change put the "region on the verge of explosion".

Lebanese foreign minister called for the League to consider imposing sanctions on the US.

Qatar's foreign minister, Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, called for "all possible measures under international law."

Earlier, talking to reporters ahead of the meeting, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki, said Palestinians can no longer accept the United States as a broker in the peace process.

He called for a UN Security Council action against Trump's decision.
