Turkish President Erdogan meets Iraq’s Kurds leader

ANKARA: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan meets Iraqi Kurdistan Regional President Masoud Barzani who comes to Turkey’s capital Ankara on Wednesday for a two-day visit. The two leaders are expected to discuss several topics mainly including recent developments in Iraq and Syria. The presence of Turkish troops near Mosul in Iraq will be on the agenda as Barzani said on Tuesday that ‘‘we will discuss the issue during my visit to Ankara and it is a positive thing that Turkish forces arrived to fight against DAESH.’’ Barzani also said that deployment of Turkish troops to the town of Bashiqa near Mosul was made in line with an agreement between Turkey and Iraq. He said that the Turkish forces arrived in Iraq within the context of a deal to train forces who will participate in Mosul operation against DAESH. Barzani added that the incident of deployment was exaggerated and they were not a party intending to fuel the problem.(Hurriyet Daily News)
