Gas Prices may be increased yet again across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD - The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has received a summary from two major gas companies Sui Northern Gas Pipe Lines (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Ltd (SSGCL), asking it to increase the gas prices further.
The gas companies have demanded a hike of Rs. 106 per MMBtu in the prices of gas in the latest summary which has been set for hearing.
OGRA has constituted a three-member committee headed by the chairperson herself, Uzma Adil.
The committee has started public hearings on the issue.
The first public hearing was conducted in Karachi on April 7, the second hearing was today (April 10) in Quetta. The process of public hearings will go on till April 18 in major cities of the country including Lahore, Peshawar, and Islamabad.
During these hearings, chairman OGRA Uzma Adil, along with two members of the regulatory body, will hear public objections on the demand of price hike yet again.
According to the summary, the companies want to increase the gas prices from July this year.
Currently, the consumer price for per MMBtu gas in Pakistan is Rs. 1,450, which would reach Rs. 1,556 after the probable price hike.
While the reason for this outrageous demand is still unknown, people want the companies to comply with Prime Minister Imran Khan’s order of reimbursement of the excessive billing amount illegally charged during the last few months.
