One killed in Ali Tower fire

LAHORE: At least one man was killed and another injured when a fire broke out in a multi-storey plaza, Ali Tower, on MM Alam Road, here Saturday.
The fire erupted on the upper floors due to which the entire building was filled with thick smoke that fainted a number of people stuck up in the plaza.
According to Rescue 1122, a citizen,Imran, got paniced due to the fire and jumped down from the plaza who was shifted to a hospital in serious condition where he sccumbed to his injuries while the other was under treatment in the hospital.
The rescue officials said that upon information, emergency services took immediate action and rushed to the spot and started rescue and relief operations.
However, they faced difficulties in the operation due to excessive smoke in the plaza, they added.
The fire-fighters controlled the fire, however, the reason of the incident has yet to be ascertained. The other trapped people were evacuated safely from the building.
Meanwhile, according to sources, the Ali Tower was owned by Ali Imran, the son-in-law of former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif. They added that the records of two Punjab government's companies-Saaf Pani Company and Punjab Power Development Company- were maintained on the floor where the fire erupted.
