Saudi government kicks off biggest ever expansion project of MasjidNabvi

Saudi government is implementing a big project for the expansion of Masjid-e-Nabvi to ensure the pilgrims’ comfort with more facilities.

According to the local media, the expansion project includes construction of new minarets and extension to the eastern part of the mosque on an area of one hundred thousand square meters. It also includes the implementation of mobile and fixed glass domes that allow natural ventilation and lighting in a modern engineered system.

The expansion project is being implemented in three phases with the completion of first phase to accommodate additional eight hundred thousand people. In the second and third phases, the eastern and western parts of the mosque will be expanded to accommodate another eight hundred thousand worshipers.

Talking to our correspondent Zahid Hameed in Madina, Hujjaj from different countries greatly hailed Saudi leadership’s initiatives for the expansion of Grand Mosque and Masjid-e-Nabvi. They said the expansion project is a step in the right direction to accommodate and facilitate the every growing number of pilgrims.

It is worth mentioning that this year about two point three million Muslims from around the world performed hajj while during the Umrah season, the figure touched the mark of six point five million people.

According to Vision 2030, the Saudi government will put in place necessary infrastructure and facilities to accommodate thirty million people in the coming years.
