Shadow Cabinet: LHC summons opposition leader

LAHORE (APP): The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday summoned Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah for September 16 on a petition seeking directions for formation of a shadow cabinet.

Justice Ch Muhammad Masood Jahangir passed these orders on the petition filed by Lawyers Foundation for Justice.

Earlier, the petitioner's counsel AK Dogar submitted that under Article 91 of the Constitution, it was mandatory to form a shadow cabinet. However, despite passing a period of three years, no shadow cabinet had been formed yet, he added.

He said that the shadow cabinet was aimed at monitoring government's performance and check corruption.

The court after hearing initial arguments observed that the shadow cabinet formation was in favour of the opposition then why the cabinet was not being formed. The court summoning opposition leader adjourned further hearing till September 16.
