Indian Army Officer killed in occupied Kashmir

NEW DELHI - An Indian army officer was killed when a patrolling party was attacked by militants Sunday night in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir , officials said on Monday.

The army officer killed in the encounter in Drang area of Beerwah was identified as Subedar Raj Kumar, a junior commissioned officer (JCO) of 24 Punjab Regiment.

The army team was returning from night patrol when they came under fire, according to an army statement.

This was the second death of an army man in two days.

On Sunday, a soldier shot himself with his service rifle in Pahalgam in Anantnag district, police said. The soldier was identified as Narendra R from Karnataka.
