Ready to meet Bilawal, Shehbaz for South Punjab province: Shah Mahmood Qureshi
MULTAN: Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that national consensus was needed for creation of South Punjab as new province and added he was ready to meet Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif on this matter.
While addressing a Seraiki Literary Convention 2018 and introduction of Dr. Ghazanfar Mehdi's Ph.D thesis on 'Seraiki Marsia' at a local hotel, he said the PTI had about eight more seats in Punjab than PML-N, however, it required two third majority for the new province in accordance with the provisions of the 18th constitutional amendment.
The Foreign Minister said, he believed that creation of new province would strengthen federation and that all smaller political parties were ready to support creation of new province.
He said, it was PTI's determination that South Punjab would one day emerge as a separate province.
He said the PTI was committed to initiate process of building consensus on matter of new province before the completion of 100 days.The party was also considering plans to extend short term relief to the people of South Punjab till the time it attained the status of a new province, he added.
Punjab Energy Minister Dr. Akhtar Malik appreciated the people of Multan for being peaceful during the days when other cities were witnessing protest demonstrations.
Dr. Ghazanfar Mehdi said on the occasion that former Punjab Governor Late Makhdoom Sajjad Hussain Qureshi, the father of Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, was also a staunch advocate for protection of rights of the people of this area.
He also expressed concerns over disposal of industrial waste into rivers saying that the practice should be stopped to save the fertile land from becoming barren in South Punjab.
