NAB files 3,484 references, recover Rs 303.767 billion till Jan 31, 2019: Chairman

ISLAMABAD: Chairman (NAB) Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal Friday said that the anti graft watchdog has filed 3,484 corruption references in various accountability courts, besides depositing Rs 303.767 billion in the national exchequer after recovering from the corrupt elements till Jan 31, 2019.

In a statement he said NAB has so far received 419,398 corruption complaints, out of which conducting complaint verifications of 13,722 were approved. NAB had also accorded approval for conducting 8,881 inquiries, 4,219 investigations.

He said NAB has filed 105 mega corruption references from out of 179 cases, besides conducting inquiries of 15 cases, while 19 cases were at investigation stage , which are being pursued in accordance with law. Whereas 40 cases have been disposed of.

Chairman said the Bureau has so far received 419,398 corruption applications , out of which the bureau approved conducting 13,722 complaint verifications were conducted, 8,881 inquiries, 4,219 investigations.  NAB has arrested 34 suspects of Mudarba and Musharka scandal besides taking back the more suspects of Mudarba and Musharka scandal with the help of Interpol.

NAB had also filed corruption reference in Accountability Court Islamabad against Mufti Ehsan in Murarba case. The court awarded 10 years imprisonment and Rs 9 billion fine to Mufti Ehsan and Rs 1 billion fine was awarded to nine other culprits.

NAB has returned the affectees Rs 10 billion after recovering from Mufti Ehsan and others. He said NAB was using all available resources to conclude its investigations against fake housing societies/ cooperative housing societies.

NAB was using resources to eradicate the menace of corruption in accordance with law by ensuring transparent investigations. NAB has received double complaints in 2018 as comparing to the year 2017. The figures clearly transpired that NAB was performing national duty with dedication. NAB was role model for Saarc countries. Pakistan has become first chairman of Saarc anti corruption forum.

NAB has inked Memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China for eradication of corruption.NAB does not believe in discrimination by considering only merits of cases, by ignoring faces. He said that the bureau was actively pursuing its resolve of ‘Accountability for All’ from day one and taking mega corruption cases to logical conclusion was priority of anti-graft watchdog.

NAB has fixed 10 months period for completing white collar crime investigations, which is unprecedented as comparing to any anti corruption agency of the world.
