Indian Army imposes curfew in Kashmir as violent protests erupt

SRINAGAR: A curfew has been imposed in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IOK) following a protest call by Kashmiri leaders on Friday.

Moreover, restrictions under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure were imposed in various districts of Kashmir Valley, including Anantnag, Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam, Baramulla, Badgam, Ganderbal, Bandipora and Kupwara.

The protest leaders were staging a demonstration against the killing of a young man, identified as Adil Farooq Magrey, who was martyred during a clash between security officials and protesters on Tuesday.

In response, the authorities have also closed down all educational institutes across the valley.

As a result, the internet service in the valley has been suspended as well.

Hurriyet leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani remains under house arrest while Mirwaiz Umer Farooq was also placed under house arrest on Friday.
