US Forces reach Helmand province to save it from Taliban onslaught
KABUL: US plan to send hundreds of additional troops to Helmand province.

US officials claimed to send hundreds of additional troops to Helmand province to counter Taliban attacks.

Defense officials claimed that the troops will help the Afghan forces to defend them from Taliban attacks.

They also claimed that troops will not participate in fight and they will assist and train the 215th Corps of the Afghan military.

The exact number of troops is not provided but it is expected that new troops would amount to over 200 US soldiers.

9,800 US troops are fighting against militants in Afghanistan and plan of withdrawal forces by 2017 has already been scrapped as top commanders are willing to increase their presence for at least 5 years more.
