Pakistani cricket captain, Babar Azam, and the team's standout all-rounder, Shadab Khan, have both received nominations for the prestigious ICC Men's Player of the Month Award for August 2023, as announced by the ICC in a statement on Thursday.

The ICC Player of the Month awards, initiated in 2021, involve the selection of winners by an independent ICC Voting Academy, comprising former players, broadcasters, and journalists, for both the ICC Men's Player of the Month and ICC Women's Player of the Month honors.

"The ICC Men's Player of the Month Award for August 2023 shortlist features two Pakistani stars and an explosive West Indies wicketkeeper," stated the ICC in its release.

Azam, a previous two-time winner of the award, earned his place on the shortlist due to his outstanding performance in August. He recorded two fifties in the first One Day International (ODI) of a three-match series against Afghanistan and scored a century during the ongoing Asia Cup.

"His exceptional form also extended to the Asia Cup, where he delivered a remarkable 131-ball 151 against Nepal in the tournament's opening match," the statement noted. "During this innings, Azam achieved the distinction of becoming the quickest player in the history of the sport to reach 19 ODI centuries.
