Sindh Police claims 99% reduction in kidnapping for ransom

KARACHI (APP): Owing to extraordinary security measures by the Sindh police, there has been a 45 percent decline in the incidents of terrorism besides a 99 percent decrease in kidnapping for ransom as compared to same period last year.

A spokesman of the Sindh Police said here on Wednesday that this was informed during a briefing here.

He said that a 16-member delegation of the National Management College which is on a study tour had called on Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sindh, A.D. Khawaja at the Central Police Office (CPO) here.

The IGP apprised the visiting delegation about the measures by the Sindh Police for the maintenance of law and order in the province besides the steps for the upgradation within the available resources.

Khawaja also spoke about the monitoring of the metropolis through CCTV cameras and surveillance.

He also informed the delegation regarding the significance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as well as the police security plan and deployment.

The DIG Headquarters, Munir Shaikh, informed the delegation that the Sindh Police consists of six ranges, 30 districts and 583 police stations..

He pointed out that during the current calendar year till August 31, there has been a decline of 45 percent in the incidents of terrorism while the kidnapping for ransom decreased by 99 per cent.

target killing came down by 67 per cent and extortion by 54 per cent as compared to similar period last year.

In police action against criminals, 7,443 accused were arrested and 287 suspects killed.

As many as 23 police officers and jawans laid down their lives which include 18 from the Karachi police.
