Govt following agenda of public welfare: governor

LAHORE: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government was following the agenda of public welfare under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
He said this during a meeting with Punjab Minister for Industries and Trade Mian Aslam Iqbal besides meeting different delegations of citizens at the Governor's House.
The governor said there would be zero tolerance against corruption, adding the prime minister, chief ministers, governors and ministers all would be accountable to people.
Ch Sarwar said powers would be transferred at lower level and local bodies representatives would be made powerful.
He said, "30 per cent of the developmental budget will be given to the village council".
The Punjab minister for industries and trade while briefing about his department said new industry policy was being brought in the province and all training institutes, including Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA), were being unified.
Mian Aslam Iqbal said Punjab Investment Board had started one window operation, under which investors would get all facilities related to investment under one roof.
The governor said the government had fixed uniform rate of gas for textile mills, and this step had given new life to this industry.
Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said it would not only help in generating employment opportunities but also increase the exports.
He further said reforms were being introduced in the police system and after eliminating political pressure it would be made an effective force.
He said supremacy of merit would be ensured in all departments and no negligence would be tolerated in this regard.
In Punjab, work was speedily being carried out to implement 100-days plan and ministers had been assigned duties in this regard, he maintained.
The Punjab governor said provision of health and education facilities was among the top priorities of the government, adding at present million of children were out of school.
He said the government would enroll these children so that they could play an effective role in development of the country after acquiring education.
He said provision of clean drinking water to the citizens was also among the government's priority and vice chancellors of the universities, factory owners, office-bearers of Chamber and Commerce Industry had been asked to install water filtration plants so that clean water could be provided to students and labourers.
