Kidnapped Indian engineer in Afghanistan recovered by Police

KABUL - Provincial police said a rescue operation was carried out on Saturday and they were able to rescue the engineer who had been held hostage for two months. 

Wardak police rescued an Indian engineer on Saturday who was kidnapped in Wardak province two months ago. 

Wardak police confirmed the report and said the rescue operation had been their fourth attempt. 

Police said they had carried out three operations in the hope of rescuing the hostage but had failed. Finally on Saturday they were able to rescue the engineer. 

The Indian engineer had been working for an electricity construction company on the Turkmenistan power line project when he was abducted by armed men. 

No further details were released.
