Practical measures being taken to promote tourism: Usman Buzdar

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar said that practical measures were being taken to promote tourism. Unfortunately the sector was ignored in past, he added.

He said this while presiding over a meeting at his office here in which the performance of Tourism department and developing of tourist spots were reviewed in detail.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government had prepared a comprehensive strategy to promote tourism and the first tourism policy of the Punjab government would be announced soon, he added.

He said tourism policy draft had been given final shape which would be soon presented before the cabinet. The CM said guest houses and rest houses would be utilized for promoting tourism, adding that 27 rest houses of Irrigation department had been opened for the people.

Usman Buzdar said tremendous tourism opportunities existed in Punjab and fruit festival would be organized for promoting agri-tourism while desert safari would be introduced in Cholistan and Thal areas.

He directed the Tourism department to devise and implement a comprehensive plan in this regard and cultural shows should also be arranged along with desert safari.

The development of new tourist spots would help promote tourism along with opening new employment opportunities, he maintained.

Provincial Minister for Tourism Yasir Humayun, Chairman P&D, Principal Secretary to CM, Secretary Tourism, spokesman to CM, MD TDCP and others attended the meeting.
