"Operation Nusrat": Afghanistan Army to launch New counter terrorism operation
KABUL - Afghanistan's *Senior security and defense officials finalized the plan for the new year’s military operation - titled ‘Operation Nusrat’.*
After three days of consultations, the plan was finalized for operations in the new solar year, which starts on March 21, TOLO News has reported.
At a meeting with officials on Thursday, President Ashraf Ghani directed relevant agencies to ensure the safety of development projects as according to him people’s welfare is connected with the implementation of these projects.
He asked security and defense officials to evaluate this year’s operation - ‘Operation Khalid’ – and to implement ‘Operation Nusrat’.
“As we discussed, we hope that the lessons learned from Operation Khalid will be implemented in Operation Nusrat,” Ghani said.
The president said no one will be allowed to interfere in security forces’ affairs.
“Any contact with the Taliban, gives the Taliban the facility to improve their cooperation and contact with foreign terrorist groups,” Ghani’s National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar said.
One politician and an MP meanwhile said there is still a lack of coordination among security force members in military operations against insurgents.
“The new strategy of the United States is to the detriment of Taliban and Haqqani network if it is continued,” said Mohammad Nateqi, deputy head of Islamic Solidarity Party of Afghanistan.
