US welcomes Afghan ceasefire offer to Taliban

KABUL: The United States has welcomed the Afghan President's offer of a ceasefire to Taliban.
In a special briefing in Washington, a senior State Department official said US forces in the country will respect the ceasefire.
To a question, he said the United States do not want to sustain its force levels and operations in Afghanistan any longer than is absolutely necessary.
