Govt issues amended PEMRA Ordinance 2002

ISLAMABAD: The government has issued amended PEMRA Ordinance 2002 today.
According to Ordinance, federal government can issue directions only on policy matters of PEMRA in accordance with article 19 of the ordinance.
However, PEMRA will not be bound to accept all instructions issued by the government.
Number of PEMRA members has been reduced from 12 to 8.
It said that one member of 22 scale will be appointed by the federal government on permanent basis.
Chairman FBR, Interior Secretary and Information Secretary have been removed from the members list Permanent Members.
Chairman PTA and Pakistan Broadcasting Association will nominate a member and all provincial governments will appoint one member each in PEMRA.
