Tarbela Dam touches dead level

ISLAMABAD- According to the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) due to the less rainfall in the country, the water level in Tarbela Dam has touched the dead level.

Tarbela Dam situated on the main stem of the Indus River but due to the fewer Monsoons, the water level in the dam has depleted.

“There is no water in the dam”, one of the spokespeople of IRSA told the media.

The water storage level at the dam is 1,550 feet while its dead level is 1,386 feet, the flow and discharge of water from Tarbela Dam is roughly equal, he further added.

Talking about the other water reservoirs in the country the spokesperson told water storage level in the Mangla Dam is 1,122 feet against its dead level of 1,050 feet, in Chashma Barrage, currently water level is at 644 feet.

According to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as well as the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources, Pakistan is suffering from the water crisis and alerted that by 2025 Pakistan will touch absolute water scarcity.
