LAHORE, Jan 8 (APP): Punjab government will set up Human Rights (HR) Directorates in all the 36 districts of the province.
Approval has been granted by the Chief Minister Punjab in this regard, a senior official of Human Rights and minorities affairs department told APP here Sunday.
He said a Human Rights Task Force was also being constituted in this regard.
Every segment of society would be given representation in the task force to enable them to work for protection of their rights and liberties, he said.
He said these initiatives of the government were aimed at removing sense of deprivation from the society as the deprivation leads to extremism.
These directorates would work for the protection of basic rights, eliminating prejudice and discrimination and to resolve such other problems.
The Punjab government had already taken various initiatives along with effective legislation to protect the rights of minorities etc.
These include: establishing Minorities Development Fund, implementing on 5% quota in government jobs for minorities, disbursing education scholarships to the students of minorities and creating interfaith harmony among different religions, he added.
