IHC issues contempt of court notice to Media House owner, prominent Anchorperson

ISLAMABAD:The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Wednesday issued contempt of court notice to anchorperson Mati Ullah Jan, owner of Waqt TV Rameeza Majid Nizami, its bureau chief and programme producer of "Apna Apna Gareban."
Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui directed them to appear in person before the court on February 12, and explain why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against them for hosting a malicious programme, and why Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) may not be directed to cancel license of Waqt TV.
The bench passed these directions while hearing a suo moto notice on the programme hosted by Mati Ullah Jan on February 5.

Justice Siddiqui observed that in the programme the anchorperson discussed prima facie name of a IHC judge with malafide intention.
The court also observed that the anchorperson conducted the programme without following code of conduct,
norms of decency and morality, and unaware of the Constitution of the country.

The bench also issued notice to other persons, who on behest of Mati Ullah Jan had launched a campaign on social media through Tweets and other modes.APP
