PTI leader Dr Amir Liaqat comes under fire yet again

ISLAMABAD - PTI MNA and renowned TV Anchor Dr Amir Liaquat comes under fire from the Supreme Court of Pakistan yet again.

He has been fined Rs 20,000 in a contempt of court case on Wednesday. The fine will go towards the Diamer Bhasa dam fund.

During the hearing, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar asked the accused’s lawyer why his client should not be arrested for disrespecting the legal body and not appearing in court.

Faisal Qureshi, the lawyer for the petitioners, argued that Amir Liaqat had levelled false statements against politicians and media personalities onhis show on Bol TV.

CJP said that Amir Liaqat had previously assured the court that he would not make any defamatory remarks on his TV programmes. He added that the court will investigate transcripts of his shows to verify if he had defied the court by making any abusive statements.

The SC adjourned the case hearing till Friday.
