TEHRAN: Turkey and Iran agreed to enhance trade ties to $30 billion within two years despite serious regional differences.
Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu visited Iranian Capital and met with Iran’s first vice president Eshaq Jahangiri and decided to triple the figure from its current $10 billion trade.
Jahangiri said “We have our differences on some regional issues, but we are determined to manage the differences to reach stability in the region. Iran and Turkey would both benefit from regional security and stability.”
Davutoglu claimed that our views are different but we cannot change our history.
He claimed that international sanctions on Iran were the only obstacle which was preventing us from reaching our goal.
He said “It is extremely important for Turkey and Iran to develop some common perspective in order to end our region’s fight among brothers, to stop the ethnic and sectarian conflicts.”
Turkey sells machinery, vehicles, iron and steel products to Iran and exports oil and natural gas which is 90% of Iranian exports to Turkey.
Iran has recently recovered from international sanctions due to its nuclear programme and many countries are focusing to tap Iran’s $400 billion economy.
Both the countries are also fighting on opposite sides in the Syrian war.
