32nd anniversary of Operation Bluestar observed

AMRITSAR: Security remained at high alert in several parts of Indian held Punjab on the 32nd anniversary of Operation Bluestar at Golden Temple.

State police claimed to deploy at least 9,000 security personnel and also installed security cameras to monitor the situation.

“We have deployed three layered security for the anniversary,” said Amritsar police commissioner Amar Singh Chahal.

Sikh radical groups raised anti-government and pro-Khalistan slogans  in the event.

Chief of Akal Takht Jathedar Gurbachan Singh said “Sikh community all over the world will remember the unhealed wounds of Operation Bluestar.”

On 6 June 1984, more than 500 people died during Operation Bluestar by Indian forces against Sikh community.
