Rocket attack on Military check post in North Waziristan, 2 martyred with 3 injured

PESHAWAR: At least two personnel of security forces were killed and three others injured in a rocket attack on a checkpost in the Noorak area of North Waziristan on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.

The officials in Miranshah confirmed the attack but did not disclose further details. The deceased personnel include Naib Sobedar Faisal Muhammad and Naik Naeem— the injured have been identified as Muhammad Idrees, Muhammad Iqbal and Azhar Ali.

The injured were rushed to the nearby Combined Military Hospital (CMH) at Bannu. Security forces cordoned off the areas soon after the attack on the checkposts.

Meanwhile, a tribal elder was injured in a roadside Improvised Explosive Devise (IED) explosion at the Bajaur Agency of the tribal belt on Wednesday morning.

Earlier this year, at least one soldier was martyred and two others injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack against security forces in the Saroobi area of North Waziristan located near the Miranshah headquarter.

Political administration officials said that the security forces were on routine patrol in Saroobi when the IED exploded, claiming the life of one soldier and leaving two others injured.

Frequent violent acts, mostly attacks against personnel of security forces and convoys have occurred in different parts of North Waziristan, in the last several weeks.

Security forces are engaged in a military action Zarb-i-Azab in the area, against militants since June 15, 2014, last. However, under the infamous Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR) clauses, the security forces allegedly detain local tribesmen over suspected involvement in these blasts, which is leading to unrest amongst the affected tribesmen.

Protest rallies have been conducted by tribesmen against such acts at Peshawar, Bannu and Dera Ismael Khan recently.
