Don’t know why I was summoned: Daniyal Aziz to Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court adjourned the contempt of court hearing against Federal Privatisation Minister Daniyal Aziz by February 19 after granting him ten days to finalize his legal response on judicial notice issued to him.

Appearing before the court, Daniyal Aziz said he was unaware as to why the court has summoned him as no such reason was mentioned in the notice.

Heading a three-judge bench, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed queried, “What do you want to say? Will you like to have a counsel to plead your case?”

The minister said he will take the lawyer which the court deems fit.

Issuing summon to Attorney General to appear on part of the prosecution, the court adjourned the hearing by February 19.

The contempt notice was issued to Daniyal Aziz over his controversial speeches and statements against the court made during various TV talk shows.

Before the hearing, Daniyal Aziz talked to media and said he respected the judiciary all his life.

Earlier on Tuesday, Minister of State for Interior Affairs Talal Chaudhry also appeared before apex court in a similar contempt case hearing.

The court issued the contempt notice to Chaudhry Talal over derogatory remarks against the judiciary.

After the minister sought three-week time, the court granted him one week and issued him show cause notice.APP
