Dr Amir Liaqat lands in hot waters yet again

KARACHI - The Election Tribunal at Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday issued show-cause notice to Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain, Member of National Assembly from NA-245, for his non-appearance in an election plea filed by Dr Farooq Sattar.

The petition is being heard by Justice Yousaf Ali Saeed of SHC, who is heading one of the two election tribunals constituted for election related petitions regarding last general elections. The tribunal ordered to get the show-cause notice implemented through Speaker National Assembly.

Dr Farooq Sattar, who lost the election to Dr Aamir Liaquat, contended in the petition that the results of the said constituency were engineered. Sattar had submitted the documents about witnesses as well as hundreds of documents about irregularities committed during polling as well as during the counting of votes.

The counsel representing him pleaded that notification of success of Dr Aamir should be declared null and void because his victory was engineered.

He also alleged that twenty thousands ballot papers were missing whereas Form-45 was not handed over to the polling agent at the polling stations. He also referred to expelling the polling agents from the polling stations during counting of votes.
