President appeals world to play role in stopping bloodshed of Kashmiris

ISLAMABAD:President Mamnoon Hussain has assured Kashmiris that Pakistan firmly stands by them and would continue to support their just struggle.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of four-day National Book Festival in Islamabad on Friday.

The President appealed to the international community to play its role in stopping bloodshed of Kashmiris and resolution of the longstanding issue of Kashmir as per UN resolutions.

He said that Pakistan came into being for development and protection of the humanity and it has served the purpose with a great struggle.

Felicitating the National Book Foundation over organizing the book festival, he said that the festival will spread the fragrance of books in the field of knowledge and literature. He urged the intellectuals to play their due role for the cause of promoting book culture in the country.

In his address on the occasion, Adviser on National History and Literary Heritage Irfan Siddiqui pointed out that Kashmir is not only a geographical dispute but also a humanitarian one.

He said as the literature has a deep link with the humanity, therefore, the poet and writers in their work should especially highlight the just struggle of Kashmiri people for their right to self determination.

He said this will also acquaint the world community about the sufferings of innocent Kashmiri people. APP/AFP
