Indian Muslim brutally beaten to death in India for loving a Hindu girl

JHARKHAND: A Muslim man was tied to a tree and beaten senseless by an Indian mob until he succumbed to his injuries for being in love with a Hindu woman, on Friday.

20-year-old Muhammad Shalik, a resident of Raza Colony from Gumla district, was found beaten to death tied to a tree. According to police, the man had been murdered by a mob for being in love with a Hindu woman.

Shalik had allegedly been in love with a Hindu woman named Soso for well over a year and the two had met at the Ram Navami procession on Wednesday. Shalik feared coming to the procession initially but then decided to go ahead.

As he dropped Soso home on a scooty, an enraged mob (mostly neighbours) caught him and started thrashing him senseless. Shalik was assaulted for several hours on end by the mob after which he succumbed to his injuries.

All of this was revealed by the Hindu girl to the police. Gumla superintendent of police Chandan Kumar Jha disclosed that three people had been arrested in connection with the murder and an FIR had been registered against unnamed persons.

“Though investigation is on, we were told by the villagers that the boy had been asked earlier not to meet the girl and never visit the village,” he said.

Mohammad Minhaj, Shalik’s father, revealed that two people had come to his house to inform him that his son was being thrashed while tied to a tree. He reached the spot to find his son critically injured.

Shalik was taken by his father to Sadar hospital but they recommended him to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi. On the way, Shalik succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

Communal tensions were on the rise after Shalik’s death but police managed to calm the situation down by deploying hundreds of personnel in the area.

Earlier this week, a Muslim man was lynched by a Hindu mob for transporting cattle in Rajsthan’s Alwar area.
