On Monday, an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi approved bail for Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, the leader of the Awami Muslim League (AML), in the May 9 incidents case.
Sardar Abdul Raziq Khan, an advocate, represented former Interior Minister Rashid during the court proceedings. Raziq argued that Rashid's name had been added to the FIR at Waris Khan police station on October 5, even though his client had no connection to the events of May 9.
He further stated that there was no substantial evidence against AML leader Rashid and that his inclusion in the FIR appeared to be politically motivated with malicious intent. Special Judge Ijaz Asif noted Rashid's senior citizen status and advanced age, and considering this, the court granted him bail on surety bonds of Rs50,000.
The court also issued a notice to the other party.
Additionally, the court accepted an interim bail request for former Member of the National Assembly Sheikh Rashid Shafique until November 8, with Sardar Abdul Raziq advocating on behalf of Rashid Shafique.
