US Special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad reveals progress in peace talks with Taliban

DOHA - US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad says peace would require the support of all interested parties and they welcomed the participation of regional countries in the process.

Khalilzad who is in Doha for peace meeting with Taliban wrote on his Twitter that he and his team continue peace talks.

Speaking for Taliban’s Qatar-based political office, Suhail Shaheen said in an interview that neither a ceasefire nor intra-Afghan dialogue was on the agenda at this stage.

He told VOA that there has been steady progress. But the talks are not completed yet. The talks will continue until we reach a conclusion.”
