ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar said that Pakistan would continue its moral, diplomatic and political support to the people of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IoK) for realization of the legitimate right to self determination as recognized by the numerous United Nations Security Council Resolutions.
Replying to a question in the Senate, the minister said that the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute was a critical element of Pakistan’s foreign policy.
He said that the Prime Minister had made it clear that the core dispute of Jammu and Kashmir between India and Pakistan had to be resolved in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a written reply, Minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that in his letter addressed to Narendra Modi, Prime Minister Imran Khan called for a peaceful resolution of all the outstanding issues, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. Regrettably, Pakistan’s peace overtures had not been reciprocated by India.
He said that during the 73rd Session of United Nations General Assembly, Pakistan robustly raised the issue of continued gross human rights violations in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The minister also participated in the meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir chaired by the OIC Secretary General, held on the sidelines of the 73rd Session of UNGA and forcefully highlighted Indian atrocities in IoK particularly in context of the OHCHR Report on Kashmir.
He added in the aftermath of Pulwama massacre in IoK on 15th December 2018, the Foreign Minister wrote letters to the UN Secretary General, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the OIC Secretary General, calling their urgent attention to the deteriorating situation of human rights in IoK and renewed the call for the establishment of an independent Commission of Inquiry (COI) as recommended by the OHCHR Report on Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that Pakistan will continue to extend political, diplomatic and moral support to the Kashmiri people in their just struggle until they achieve their legitimate right of self-determination as acknowledged by the United Nations Security Council Resolutions.
