Supreme Court finalises the draft affidavit for nomination papers

ISLAMABAD - A five-member Larger Bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has declared the submission of an affidavit containing personal information along with nomination papers mandatory for the candidates.

Hearing a case pertaining to nomination forms in Islamabad today, the Bench directed the ECP to prepare the specimen of the affidavit and present before the court.

The court said that the existing nomination papers will stay in place and the affidavit to be submitted by the candidates will carry the additional information.

The Chief Justice once again made it clear that the general elections will not be delayed and these will be held as per the schedule.

Supreme Court has approved the affidavit specimen prepared by Election Commission of Pakistan to be submitted by candidates along with nomination papers.

The court said the existing nomination papers will stay in place and the affidavit to be submitted by the candidates will carry the additional information.

Last date of submitting the affidavit is 11th of this month. The draft of the affidavit has been put up by the Election Commission on its official website and communicated to all the Returning Officers.

Such Affidavit would also be publicized by Election Commission of Pakistan in the media.

Spokesperson of Election Commission said nomination papers of a candidate will be rejected if he fails to submit the Affidavit within due date.
