Indian Army camp attacked in occupied Kashmir

ISLAMABAD - Militant attack on a highly-fortified army camp at Hajin in Bandipora district on late Tuesday evening. Police said militants opened heavy fire on the camp of 13 Rashtirya Riffles, which was retaliated forcing the ultras to take a hasty retreat.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Bandipora, Sheikh Zulfikar Azad told DNA that militant opened fire on the army camp and later fled from the scene. “They fired at the army camp of 13 RR and escaped from the spot”, he said.

Sources said a group of militants attacked the army camp from two sides but security forces immediately swung into action and retaliated forcing the gunmen to flee from the scene.

“Stand off attack by militants on Hajin army camp. Own troops retaliated”, said Colonel Rajesh Kalia, defence spokesman at Srinagar.

Security forces have rushed in reinforcements and combing operation has been launched in the area. “Standoff firing by militants on security forces at Hajin. Retaliated by the security forces. Combing of the area is going on”, tweeted Kashmir Zone Police.

This was the third such attack of the day in Kashmir. Earlier in the day, militants detonated a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in apple rich town of Sopore damaging a security force vehicle.

“IED blast in Sopore at Yemberzal wari. Security forces' vehicle suffered damages. No loss of life or property reported”, said Kashmir Zone Police

Later in the evening, the militants appeared in Hawal area of Srinagar and fired at the sentry guarding a Sufi Shrine with an intention to loot weapons. However, the alert sentry immediately fired back forcing the militants to flee from the spot.
