India: Curfew extended in violence hit Shillong

NEW DELHI: In India, curfew has been extended for fourth day after violence erupted between Sikh and Khasi communities in the Meghalaya capital Shillong.

Members of the Dalit Sikh community claim that the attacks from dominant local tribe Khasi are aimed at getting them to leave their homes.

Indian police officer said the army is still on standby. Fifteen companies of Central Armed Police Force have been deployed and another 10 companies are on way to Shillong to assist the police in maintaining law and order.
