Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Moazzam said that the purpose of the observance of Solidarity Day was to highlight the significance of the day and reaffirm our solidarity with the Kashmiri people in their just struggle for the right to self-determination.

He called upon the international community to take cognizance of the plight of the Kashmiri people who have been subjugated by Indian occupation. He said that, on this day, the people of Pakistan renew their resolve to continue their support for struggling Kashmiri brothers till they achieve their cherished objective.

Our leadership has also made it clear that the people of Kashmir are entitled to their right to self-determination and India should immediately stop its atrocities and aggression against the peace loving people of the Indian Occupied Kashmir. While reiterating historical facts, Ambassador Moazzam reassured the Kashmiri brethren of Government and people of Pakistan's complete moral, political and diplomatic support for their rights. Ambassador Moazzam A. Khan said that the government of Pakistan has forcefully raised the Kashmir issue at international forums and called upon the United Nations and its member countries to play their role in resolving the decades old issue of Kashmir in accordance with UN resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiris.

Ambassador said that the Government of Pakistan would continue its political, moral and diplomatic support to the struggle of the Kashmiri people for their right of self-determination. The audience was also shown a documentary on the plight of the Kashmiri people. The brochures, posters, booklets and articles relevant to the occasion were distributed amongst the participants. The posters were also displayed in the Chancery Hall. At the end of the function, special prayers were offered for the Kashmiri martyrs and for an early resolution of Kashmir dispute. H.E. Syed Javed Hassan, Consul General of Pakistan Consulate Dubai, presided over another function held in Pakistan Consulate Dubai. The event gathered representatives of the Pakistani-Kashmiri community in Dubai.

The messages of President and Prime Minister were read out in the event. On this occasion, the Consul General of Pakistan, Syed Javed Hassan said that right from the day one, the people of Kashmir did not accept India’s illegal occupation and started a struggle with the total support of Kashmiri public in 1947.

Finding it difficult to suppress the struggle of Kashmiris, India on January 1, 1948, approached the UN Security Council to address the matter, he added. He pointed out that the UN Security Council through its successive resolutions impliedly nullified Indian occupation of Kashmir declaring it as a disputed territory. Consul General, therefore, urged the international community to value and respect peaceful struggle of Kashmiris and persuade India to resolve the Kashmir dispute through negotiation in accordance with the UN resolutions on priority basis.

He also called for investigations by the International community and other human rights groups into ongoing brutalities of Indian forces in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier representatives of the Pakistani-Kashmiri community in UAE mentioned in their speeches that the occupation forces are involved into blatant violations of human rights in Jammu and Kashmir. They apprehended that India is hell bent upon changing the demographic composition of the territory and convert Muslims into a minority. They also appealed the international community to persuade India for peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute according to the terms of UN Security Council resolutions.APP/AFP
