Shahbaz Sharif shifted to jail on judicial remand

LAHORE - PML N President and Opposition Leader in National Assembly has been shifted to jail on accountability court orders.

The Accountability Court on Thursday ordered that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif, who has been arrested in connection to the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme case, be sent to jail.

Shehbaz, who has been in National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) custody since October 5 in connection to the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme case, was presented before an accountability court in Lahore as his physical remand ended today.

As the hearing went under way, NAB sought an extension in Shehbaz's remand. However, the NAB prosecutor failed to provide satisfactory answers after which the court rejected the NAB's request for a further extension in Shehbaz's remand and ordered that he be sent to jail.

Earlier, a large number of PML-N workers had gathered outside the court premises and tried to remove the barriers at which the police baton charged them.
