Punjab govt plans to generate energy from agriculture waste

MULTAN: (APP) The Punjab government was working on a plan to generate electricity from agriculture waste and seven waste collection machines would be distributed among farmers at subsidized price on Friday here.

Secretary Agriculture Muhammad Mahmood said utilizing agriculture waste to generate electricity would be beneficial both for agriculture and the industry, says a release issued by media liaison unit of Punjab agriculture department here Thursday.

He said all possible steps were being taken to produce electricity from agriculture waste to benefit farmers and added that government was consulting experts for the purpose.

He said that efforts were also being made to ensure that agriculture waste give good price to farmers. He added that seven waste collection machines would be provided to farmers at 50 per cent subsidy on Friday.

Chief Executive, Punjab Bio-Energy Company Rana Muhammad Arif said on the occasion that nine points had been identified to store agriculture waste. He appealed the farmers not to destroy the agriculture waste and instead sell it to Bio-Energy Company. He added that work on the project to produce electricity from agriculture waste had already begun near Faisalabad, the release concluded.
