AJK tourism policy to be unveiled soon

MUZAFFARABAD: (APP) AJK minister for Information, Tourism and Information Technology Mushtaq Ahmed Minhas Thursday said the AJK government would encourage investment by private entrepreneurs, individually or under private-public partnership and joint ventures for promoting tourism, hydel power and industrial sector in the liberated territory.

He was talking to a delegation of Daudi Bohra Party, which called on him under the leadership of Naeem Muhi ud din in AJK's metropolis.

Secretary Information Tourism and IT Mansoor Qadir Dar apprised the delegation of government's plan for promotion of tourism and information sectors in Azad Jammu Kashmir. Director General Press Information Department AJK Raja Azhar Iqbal and Director Tourism Irshad Peerzada and senior officials were also present on the occasion.

Mushtaq Ahmed Minhas said the government was acting upon an integrated broad-based plan for speedy socio-economic progress besides uplift of tourism, industrial and business sectors in Azad Jammu Kashmir – where a conducive atmosphere was available coupled with satisfactory law and order situation prevails across the liberated territory.

The plan primarily involves promotion of adventure tourism in Azad Jammu Kashmir under private public partnership.

Minhas said that in order to materialize the idea of making AJK an attractive hub of tourism in South Asia, an international tourism conference is proposed to be hosted in AJK soon under the auspices of the government.

Intending investors including various world fame tourism organizations from different parts of the country will be invited to attend the proposed moot to apprise them of the vast natural potential available for tourism, hydel power generation and industrial sectors – to attract them for investment in these sectors in AJK, he underlined.

Paying tributes to Dauadi Bohra Party, Mushtaq Ahmed Minhas said that the Bohra community had always played a significant role for the socio- economic uplift and progress of the country.

Bohra Party, he underlined, also played a worthy role during the Pakistan movement.

The party, Minhas added, also has a significant role for promoting peace, brotherhood, unity, harmony and cohesion among the masses.

Secretary Tourism and IT Mansoor, Qadir Dar in his briefing said AJK is blessed with important and attractive sites in the world for Paragliding.

He disclosed that Water-based adventure tourism is being launched in AJK - which is also enriched with ideal natural potential of mountain-based tourism, Qadir suggested maximum investment by intending investors in tourism sector – which, he added, could ameliorate the economic conditions of the territory by opening new vistas of employment in the state. He underlined that all bottlenecks in the way of investment in tourism sector are being removed to encourage maximum investment in this sector in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

Secretary Tourism said that AJK government has devised a comprehensive tourism policy which, he added, would be announced after formal legislation in this regard, he added.
