Pakistan- South Korea economic ties to reach new heights: Korean Ambassadors  

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Ambassador of Republic of Korea to Pakistan Suh Dong-gu Wednesday said he was determined to take economic cooperation between Pakistan and Korea to new heights, during his stay in Islamabad.

Speaking at a dinner hosted to welcome him and to give Life-time Achievement Award to senior journalist of Jang Group Hanif Khalid, the ambassador said Korea had become the 11th largest economy of the world.

Chairman National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs Qaisar Ahmed Sheikh said during the era of Ayub Khan, the economies of Pakistan and Korea were almost the same and their exports were not more than $ 200 million.

Now the volume of trade of Pakistan was $ 65 billion while total exports and imports of Korea had reached $ 11,000 billion.

He said Pakistan could become a strong economy by following in the footsteps of Korea.

Korea sent a government delegation in the era of Ayub Khan to Pakistan to copy the Second Five Year Plan prepared by Dr Mehboobul Haq and amazed the world with its economic progress.

Hanif Khalid thanked Chairman NA Committee Qaiser Sheikh for bestowing an award on him.

The Korean ambassador received applause from the audience as he made remarks in Urdu during his speech.
