ISLAMABAD - Pakistan government to have a new Chief Economist.The federal cabinet has approved appointment of the chief economist for the Ministry of Planning.
The cabinet gave approval through a circulation summary, sources said, adding that a chief economist of international standards will be appointed for the economic progress of the country.
Earlier in February, Planning Minister Asad Umar had held interviews for the post, which is also a very critical position in macroeconomic planning.
The PTI government had earlier scrapped the process for selection of the chief economist after it failed to final a suitable person.
In January 2019, Prime Minister Imran Khan had approved the appointment of Ijaz Wasti as Chief Economist, government of Pakistan.
It was for the first time in last 12 years since 2006 that any professional belonging to Economist Group (EG) had been selected for the post.
