Supreme Court acquits death row convict after 10 years  

ISLAMABAD: (APP) The Supreme Court on Monday acquitted a death row convict after ten years terming the incarceration and the death sentence unjust.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa acquitted Amir in a murder case.

It is pertinent to mention here that a case was registered against Aamir, Zubair Muhammad, Muhammad Arshad, Muhammad Younis and Muhammad Muzaffar over a murder incident in 2006 in Jhelum.

The trial court awarded death sentence to Aamir and Zubair and acquitted three other persons.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) acquitted Zubair and maintained death sentence for Aamir.

Later, Aamir filed appeal in Supreme Court against LHC order, objecting trial court's verdict, the SC rhetorically asked how four accused were freed over unreliable testimonies and one was sentenced to death.

The three-member bench annulled high court,s verdict and acquitted Amir.
